This photo was taken at Michael's commissioning, on December 13, 1996. He is being giving his first salute
by his father, Ralph Conde, Jr., who is a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. A new officer's first salute is called
the silver dollar salute as, by tradition, he gives a silver dollar to the first person to salute him.
