Notes: With the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, on October 18, 1685, the situation had become almost unbearable
for Protestants. Pierre, whose wife Marie apparently had passed away, left La Rochelle for his religious belief
and took with him his 8 year old son Pierre. It is probable that he went to London, where he may have joined
his brother-in-law, Plessis. In 1689 he is recorded as a member of the Wallon Church in Amsterdam. After the death of his first wife
Marie Morin, he married again, his second wife being Marie Nallean. He must have been able to save his
fortune or a good part thereof from the prosecution and confiscation in France because he was able to
establish himself again as merchant in Amsterdam.

Notes: In 1692 he is recorded as a member of the Wallon Church in Amsterdam. By 1710 he and his wife
were registered as 'burghers' of Amsterdam. He was chosen deacon in the Wallon Church in 1713
and later served the Wallon community repeatedly as deacon and then as elder. After the death of his wife Marie Olivier, Pierre married again in 1723 a lady Elisabeth Brians.
This second marriage remained childless. Elisabeth Brains died in 1741 and Pierre Mounier died,
almost 80 years old.

Notes: He conducted a commercial business with his brother Jean, who had established himself in Oporto, Portugal.
Pierre bought a large house on the Heerengracht Amsterdam on the corner of the Uyselstraat (adjacent the
Wallon Church); the cost of the ground, building, improvements and enlargement ran as high as eighty
thousand guilders. After his brother died in1788 he retired from the business.

Notes: He studied theology and received his doctors' degree in 1825. Stood in his first ministry in Leeuwarden
in 1826, served in Antwerp from 1827, and from 1830 on he preached in Amsterdam where he was appointed
Court preacher in 1858. He received the order of the "Nederlandschedarms" and retired from regular
church office in 1868. Upon his request he was allowed to retire in 1878 from officiating at Court services
and was graced by being made an officer in the Order of the Eikenhrom. In 1860 he journeyed to La Rochelle, France with his son Pierre to research the Mounier history there.

Notes: He studied theology in Amsterdam and became an ordained minister as a D.D. in 1856. In 1859 he returned
to France, where he applied and received his French citisenship as a descendent of the refugees of 1685.
His first ministry was at Roullé in the Poitou province, and in 1863 was called to Aigalliers, where he
married. lived later in Nimes. He was all his life a quiet studious man, quite orthodox in his religious
outlook, in contrast to his father and must members of our family, who are liberal and modern as a rule.
