Notes:
According to church baptismal records his name was Ferdinand Julius Franz Rasch.  
He arrived in the US ca. 1854.

Civil War Vet., enlisted in the Union Army on April 18, 1861, for a 3-year term.
Assigned to Company A, 2nd Infantry of the Michigan Infantry.  He was wounded at
Williamsburg, VA, on May 5, 1862, receiving a disability discharge on September
13, 1862.  He returned to Michigan where he ran a grocery store in Grand Rapids.

Visited German relatives in Silesia from 1872 to 1874.

He never married.
