Mexican War and rose to Captain during World War I, in the Quartermaster Corp.
Discharged on January 23, 1920. Returned to the U.S. after discharge, but went back
to France to marry Marie Herrou in 1920, and lived in France for 2 years, working
for the American Graves Registration Service. Became a farmer in St. Florian.
Did not prosper as a farmer in the depression years.(ref 19)
He had honesty, integrity, and a determination to keep trying. (ref 28)
